Gillibrand Statement On Confirmation Of Ashton Carter To Serve As Secretary Of Defense

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, released the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Ashton Carter to serve as the U.S. Secretary of Defense:

“With the decisions facing our nation, it is right that Congress acted quickly to confirm Dr. Ash Carter as our new Secretary of Defense. During his confirmation hearing, I asked Dr. Carter about the continued injustice our men and women in uniform face after reporting sexual assault and was encouraged that he recognized the problem and expressed his commitment to addressing it. I look forward to working with Secretary Carter to achieve the reforms that will strengthen our Armed Services.”
