Jan 23, 2017

Red Hook, N.Y. – U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $4.9 million in federal assistance for the Village of Red Hook in Dutchess County. The federal funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program. Specifically, the Village of Red Hook will receive $1.2 million in federal grant funds along with a federal low-interest loan of $3.7 million to construct a sewer collection system and expand the wastewater treatment plant. The federal loan is set for 38 years at 1.875 percent.

“Nothing is more important than ensuring families in the Hudson Valley and across New York have access to clean drinking water. That’s why I’ve continued the fight to provide our communities with the resources they need to maintain their sewer infrastructure,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal investment will allow the Village of Red Hook to make essential upgrades to their water systems so they can continue to deliver clean and safe drinking water to their residents for generations to come.”

“These federal funds will allow Village of Red Hook to make critical upgrades to their water infrastructure,” said Senator Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “This upgrade to the village’s water system will help protect the health and quality of life for residents and improve economic development opportunities within the Village.”

USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
