Mar 3, 2020

Washington, DC – U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $37,213 in federal discretionary funding for the City of Buffalo. The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and will be used to offset the cost of providing housing choice vouchers to low-income families.

Clean, decent, and affordable housing is a necessity for all New Yorkers,” said Senator Schumer. “I’m proud to have secured this funding and will continue to fight tooth and nail to ensure that all New Yorkers are provided the best and safest housing available.”

“Housing is a basic human right and all New York families deserve a safe, decent and sanitary living space,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding is great news for low-income New Yorkers who need assistance affording a home. I will always advocate for the resources needed to provide New Yorkers with access to safe and affordable housing.”

Housing Choice Voucher programs provide assistance to low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Participants are able to find their own home within the assistance guidelines and are not limited to subsidized housing projects.
