Today, after Senate Republicans blocked the Democratic plan to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies for three years and lower health care costs for tens of millions of Americans, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement:
“America’s economic crisis is about to get substantially worse. As families struggle with rising costs on everyday goods and essentials because of Trump’s tariffs, Republicans have voted today to make health care more expensive for tens of millions of working-class Americans. It is absolutely disgraceful. President Trump and congressional Republicans have spent their entire year in power eagerly cutting taxes for billionaires, gutting health care access, and making life more expensive for American families and small businesses, but when the time came to act on behalf of everyday Americans, they yet again turned their back on them. Now millions of Americans – including as many as 1.7 million New Yorkers – are going to see their premiums skyrocket or lose their coverage entirely. Democrats in Congress will keep fighting to lower costs, expand access to health care, and support working families.”
