U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $194,862 in federal funding for the Perry-Warsaw Airport in Wyoming County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant will fund the acquisition of a new plow for snow removal. This upgrade will allow for increased safety and efficiency at the airport during the winter months.
“Making sure our runways are clear for takeoff, especially during winter weather, is essential for the safety of our Wyoming County travelers,” said Senator Schumer. “Removing snow from airport runways safely and efficiently so flights can continue to operate on time is important for travelers, for Perry-Warsaw Airport, and for our economy overall.”
“This funding will help support safety operations at the Perry-Warsaw Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand. “The Perry-Warsaw Airport is a vital economic anchor that businesses and travelers rely on, and this new equipment would help decrease snow delays during the winter season. I will always fight in the Senate to make sure that our airports receive the funding needed to enhance efficiency and public safety.”
“The Towns of Perry and Warsaw are pleased that we were able to secure funding for snow removal equipment. This will enhance our ability to keep the runway and taxi areas safe as our current equipment has become outdated. We also would like to thank Senator Schumer for his continued support of the Perry-Warsaw Airport,” said Jim Brick, Perry Town Supervisor.
This funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
