WASHINGTON D.C. – United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) sent a letter to Mr. Willie C. Taylor, Regional Director of the Philadelphia Regional Office of the Economic Development Administration, in support of Niagara County’s proposal for funding to develop the Cambria Technology Park.
In their letter, Gillibrand and Hochul write: “The Cambria Technology Park is very important to the strength of the region’s economy. The Niagara County economy is in transition, diversifying its existing sector base of heavy automotive manufacturing and chemical processing with the addition of new economic drivers, one of which is the high-tech sector. … The Cambria Technology Park would be a central catalyst that helps accelerate growth of the County’s high-tech industry, improving the region’s economic growth.”
“Home to America’s best manufacturing tradition, world-class research institutions and the hardest workers you could ask for, New York is poised to lead the high-tech economy of the future,” Senator Gillibrand said. “When we invest in the Cambria Technology Park to harness all that potential, we can spark new innovation, attract new businesses and create new jobs for Western New York.”
“I urge the Economic Development Administration to support this project. The Cambria Technology Park will open the door to many business opportunities in Niagara County, enhancing our regional economy, and I look forward to seeing it come to fruition,” Rep. Hochul said.
“We appreciate the impact that this EDA grant will provide for infrastructure development at the Cambria Technology Park. Having this infrastructure in place will enhance the marketability of the site for business development,” added Town of Cambria Supervisor Wright H. Ellis.
The requested funding will be used to develop the internal infrastructure for the Cambria Technology Park, which is currently designated as shovel-ready by New York State. An Economic Impact Study conducted by Niagara County projects that the Park will create 200 new jobs and an aggregate annual income of $11.4 million.
