Gillibrand Announces Bill to Name Bergen Post Office in Honor of Bergen Native Barry Miller

Jan 27, 2016

Bergen, NY – U.S Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced legislation to rename the Bergen Post Office located at 15 Rochester Street in Genesee County as the “Barry G. Miller Post Office.” Congressman Chris Collins recently introduced the House version of this legislation.

“Barry Miller was deeply involved in the Bergen community and his passion showed in his dedication to service and answering the call of those in danger for the past 30 years,” said Senator Gillibrand. “We collectively weep on the passing of such an extraordinary and generous person. This designation would be a fitting tribute for a hometown hero in the community he held near and dear.”

“Barry Miller was beloved by all who were lucky enough to meet him,” said Congressman Collins. “In order to honor his passion for his community and his commitment to helping others, I am glad to partner with Senator Gillibrand to introduce legislation renaming the post office in Bergen after Mr. Miller.”

Barry Miller, a Bergen native, served as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years, including 10 years as the assistant EMS Chief, and as a Genesee County Coroner. Mr. Miller was also owner of Miller’s Millworks in Bergen and the Beaver River Lodge in the Adirondacks. He previously served as a member of the Bergen Town Board for several years.

Barry Miller is survived by his parents Tracy and Loretta Miller, his sister Pamela McCarthy and nieces, Rebekah, Rachal, and Shannon McCarthy, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
