Gillibrand Announces Final Congressional Passage Of Nearly $350,000 For Rochester Revitalization Project

Dec 14, 2009

Washington,
DC
– U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that both houses of Congress
passed the FY2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill, including $340,900 to help
revitalize the old Midtown Plaza in downtown Rochester. Senator Gillibrand
aggressively lobbied members of the Appropriations Committee to include funding
for the project in this year’s spending bill.

“This
is great news for Rochester,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal dollars
will help create jobs and help turn the economy around for the long term by
bringing new life, new energy and new businesses to the old Midtown Plaza area.
I will continue working hard to ensure New York gets its fair share from the
federal government.”

The City of Rochester will use the $350,000 federal investment toward a
public-private partnership to redevelop the old Midtown Plaza into a mixed-use
urban space. The project is expected to create or retain over 1,500 jobs and
leverage over $200 million in new investment.

The U.S. Senate passed the Omnibus Appropriations bill over the weekend. With
final passage, the bill now goes to the President to become law.
