Gillibrand Applauds New GI Bill

Aug 3, 2009

Washington, D.C. – During
her service on the Armed Services Committee in the House of Representatives,
Senator Gillibrand helped pass the new GI Bill – the biggest federal investment
in higher education since the creation of the first GI Bill. As the new GI Bill
goes into effect this week, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the
following statement applauding America’s commitment to the veterans – and
military families that have served our country.

“Our
veterans and their families have sacrificed everything for our freedoms, and in
return, they deserve every opportunity for a bright future.  We must
always strive to honor their service, by providing affordable loans to buy a home
and raise a family, quality health care, and the best education available to
put them on a path to success.

“With the new G.I. Bill we are doing right by our veterans, opening doors to
colleges and universities across America and arming our veterans with the
opportunity to get the first-class education they deserve.

“This marks
the biggest investment in higher education in generations.   We’re
taking the right steps to rebuild our economy the same way America rebuilt
itself after World War II – with big, bold investments in higher education.”
