Sep 29, 2017

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $849,000 in federal assistance for the Town of Ripley in Chautauqua County. The federal funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program. Specifically, the Town of Ripley will receive $750,000 in federal grant funds through the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and $99,000 through the Rural Business Service (RBS) using the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG). This funding will go towards a project to construct a wastewater collection system in the town of Ripley, sewer district #2 located in Chautauqua County.

“This federal investment is great news for the Town of Ripley,” said Senator Schumer. “These federal funds for Ripley will help boost economic development in the region and support critical water infrastructure. I am proud to announce this federal investment and will continue to fight to make sure that rural communities have the tools they need to grow and prosper.”

“These federal funds will allow the Town of Ripley to make critical upgrades to their water infrastructure,” said Senator Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “This new wastewater collection system will help protect the health and quality of life for residents and improve economic development opportunities within the town.”

USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
