Major Projects Include Over $15 Million For Westchester County Airport, Over $13 Million For The Syracuse Hancock International Airport, And More Than $7 Million For Watertown International Airport
Today, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, announced $66,699,586 in new federal funding to upgrade airport facilities and equipment at 22 airports across New York State. This federal funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program. In addition to these newly announced grants, the FAA announced congressionally directed spending that the senators had previously secured as part of the FY24 funding package, including $6 million for Syracuse Hancock International Airport and $1.5 million for Ithaca Tompkins International Airport. These grants will fund projects that enhance safety measures and help ensure a more reliable and comfortable passenger experience.
“From big cities like Syracuse to our rural communities, New York’s airports are a gateway for commerce and our tourism industry, and vital connectors for residents and visitors. I fought to ensure our airports have the resources needed to deliver a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience to travelers, and am thrilled the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law is continuing to help upgrades at New York’s airports take off,” said Senator Schumer. “This $66+ million in federal funding will help our airports invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts. I’ve long fought to boost funding for New York’s airports and am thrilled to deliver federal resources to help our local economies reach new heights.”
“I am proud to have secured a whopping $66+ million in federal funding to help airports across our state provide a safe, reliable, and comfortable passenger experience for everyone traveling through New York,” said Senator Gillibrand. “From the New York City metropolitan area to our rural communities Upstate, our airports are gateways for tourism, commerce, and opportunity. I’ll keep fighting to bring home the funding that our airports need to offer top-notch service, operate efficiently, and ensure passenger safety.”
