U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $ 1,546,405 in federal funding for the Adirondack Regional Airport in Franklin County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These federal funds will allow the airport to further upgrade its emergency rescue capabilities by expanding its aircraft rescue and firefighting building. The grant will also fund the expansion of the airport’s snow removal equipment facility, allowing airfield operations to flow more smoothly year-round.
“Keeping our airports running smoothly and safely every day of the year is essential to the health of the region’s economy,” said Senator Schumer. “These funds will give the Adirondack Regional Airport the resources it needs to make crucial infrastructure upgrades and ensure that all of the passengers and pilots that travel in and out of the North Country each day have a safe and convenient trip.”
“This funding will help advance emergency and safety operations at the Adirondack Regional Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Investing in our airport’s infrastructure enables safer, more efficient service for the businesses and travelers who utilize it every day. I will continue to push for resources that enhance efficiency and public safety that New Yorkers can rely on.”
This funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
