Aug 23, 2013

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $1,035,000 in federal funding is being awarded to the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury to remove trees obstructing one of the runways and to upgrade its lighting systems. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.

“I am pleased to add this million dollar grant to the list of ‘arrivals’ at Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport,” said Senator Schumer. “The funding will help Floyd Bennett Memorial enhance its safety by removing trees obstructing the runway and by properly lighting other obstacles.  For New York airports, both big and small, safety comes first.”

“Investing in our transportation infrastructure is one of the best ways to strengthen our economy,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal funds for Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport can help deliver better, safer service for travelers and businesses, and help keep flights and our local economy on the move.”

The federal funding for Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport will specifically be used to purchase remove trees that are obstructing the approach to Runway 1, and to install lighting fixtures on any remaining obstructions.
