Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $1,123,468 in federal funding for critical infrastructure projects at four airports throughout the Southern Tier. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Program. Specifically, the Hornell Municipal Airport located in Steuben County will receive $534,109 to construct a 2,900 square foot snow removal equipment building to house equipment from adverse weather conditions. The Corning-Painted Post Airport located in Steuben County will receive $289,959 to rehabilitate Runway 14/32 and several taxiways. The Sidney Municipal Airport located in Delaware County will receive $150,000 to construct a new 3,275 foot parallel Taxiway A, this funding is for phase one of the project. The Ithaca Tompkins Regional located in Tompkins County will receive $149,400 to prepare design plans for two existing taxiways needed to restore the structural integrity of 1,900 feet of Taxiway A and 300 feet of stub Taxiway C.
“Keeping our airports in top-notch shape is crucial to attracting business and tourism to the region,” said Senator Schumer. “These federal funds will allow airports across the Southern Tier to make critical infrastructure upgrades that will enable safer, more efficient service for the passengers and pilots who fly in and out of the region every day.”
