Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Over $460,000 in Economic Recovery Act Funding for Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority

Jul 10, 2009

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten
Gillibrand today announced $466,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA) funding for the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority
(RGRTA). The grant will allow the RGRTA to purchase several service/support
vehicles which are essential to daily operation. These vehicles will be used to
support RGRTA’s urban public transit and paratransit services in Rochester and
Monroe County.

“It is critical that we support and invest in our
public transportation systems,” said Schumer. “This federal funding will ensure
safe, reliable transportation for passengers and commuters across Monroe
County. These investments will also help keep the local public transportation
vehicles up to date and sustainable for years to come.”

“Public transportation is the right investment for
the Rochester area,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal dollars will help
people get to work, take more cars off highways and reduce our emissions. I
will continue working with Senator Schumer and the entire Congressional
Delegation to make sure New York gets its fair share from the federal
government.”

This grant is funded under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009.This grant uses ARRA funds transferred from the
Federal Highway Administration. These funds will allow the RGRTA to purchase
five supervisor cars, one supervisor accessible van, four service trucks, one
floor scrubber vehicle, one sweeper vehicle and one mobile personnel lift
platform.. These vehicles will be used to service and support RGRTA’s urban
public transit and paratransit services in the area. Finally these funds will
support preserving existing position at the RGRTA and help in protecting the
considerable capital transit investments already made in the area.
