Sep 18, 2012

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $815,425 in federal funding is being awarded to Schenectady County Airport to improve runway infrastructure. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.

“This Department of Transportation grant will ensure that Schenectady residents, businesses and all visitors to the area can continue to access the region,” said Senator Schumer. “Whether they travel for business or pleasure, passengers can now look forward to a safer, smoother landing on Schenectady County Airport’s runway.”

“This is an important investment for Schenectady County Airport and the Capital Region,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Improving the airport’s runway can help provide better, safer service for travelers and business, and help strengthen the local economy.”

The federal funding for Schenectady County Airport will specifically be used to improve runway safety through rehabilitating the current runway that has deteriorated over the years, and help ensure the airport operates at its highest efficiency.
