Jun 15, 2020

U.S. Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $3,800,000 in federal funding for Chemung County’s C-Tran System. This federal funding was allocated by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) through the CARES Act and will help ensure the C-Tran busing system can continue offering essential public transportation during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“As upstate communities in the Southern Tier reopen, it’s imperative that they get all the federal tools they need to start the recovery process,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal funding will offset the devastating financial impacts of COVID-19 on transit operations throughout the region and allow C-Tran to maintain critical services while Chemung County adjusts to the new normal. I’m proud to have fought for this imperative funding to be included in the CARES Actand will continue to fight to make sure the Southern Tier has every dollar it needs to recover.”

“The C-Tran System is essential to providing safe and reliable transportation for transit riders in in Chemung County,” said Senator Gillibrand. “As communities in New York move to re-open, this funding will ensure that people who rely on busing services can continue riding safe public transit to get to work, the doctor, or the grocery store. I am proud to have fought for this funding in the CARES Act and will continue pushing for additional resources needed to serve New Yorkers.”
