Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) released the following statement regarding Republicans’ refusal to negotiate much-needed reforms and fund the Department of Homeland Security:
“While the president is gutting health care for working New Yorkers, he’s diverting our tax dollars to ICE, creating chaos in our communities and making us less safe. Public safety cannot be achieved without public trust.
It is disappointing that Republicans in Congress continue to block commonsense reforms to an out-of-control ICE. These critical reforms would strengthen public safety, protect American citizens’ rights, and bring much-needed oversight to a rogue department operating without accountability. Absent meaningful reforms, I will not support a blank check for President Trump’s lawlessness.”
